DayOne – The OneBlock Primer

This adventure begins floating over the void on a single block. The fresh Skyblock smell is in the air, and you are ready to start mining the block under your feet! Mostly non-hostile mobs will arrive in this phase, even the spiders are lazy if the suns out. Later on, move your base farther away so the hostiles don’t blow up your chest monster. For now, attempt to corral the basic mobs (use the OneBlock to spread grass while it’s here!). There are plenty of mobs available for food, just make sure to keep a few around for breeding. I recommend spending a few copper on lightning rods to keep them safe. As the OneBlock progresses through the game, the randomness of the blocks may cause you to run into something that can’t be mined effectively. The obvious solution is to just mine that diamond with a stone tool and keep going. Wait! There is a better way, just phone a friend! Before inviting anybody over to help grab that obsidian for an enchanter, you will need to configure your island to accept them. Open the GUI by running the command /ob settings. The top right corner has an icon for expert settings that changes when clicked, cycling through iron, gold and nether brick (expert). This shows all the settings available on your island. Now that we have ‘expert settings’ activated, up near the top left is a comparator icon (redstone component), select it to open the general settings for your island. The pumpkin pie icon is visit protection (no visitors by default). Before allowing visitors, make sure you have all the other permissions set up so people can’t mess with your things. If you are the one doing the visiting, use this command to get home – /ob go.
After much mining, trapping and general first day struggles, you eventually make it into phase two, the Underground! This is where I’d do a bit of house cleaning and move things away from the OneBlock . If you managed to get ice in phase one, put it on top of a solid block, break it, and use a few iron to bucket it. Consider making some water bottles and filling a cauldron, this makes another water bucket for an infinite source. Bonemeal some grass, get the seeds for wheat and start the basic farms for food, leather and paper. Now you are headed towards some enchanting goodness! Most importantly, what is your confidence level fighting cave mobs 1v1? This phase will have creepers, zombies, skellys, cave spiders and more, you may want some leather armor and a shield up front. The chests will help, if you can hold out, containing things like bow and arrows, armor and shields. Another tip is to make sure to have block and mob sounds turned on. You can actually hear the mobs getting ‘closer’ as you mine. With that, you are well on the way to mastering the OneBlock!
